Toronto Dominion Tower

Location: Vancouver, BC
Completion Date: 2007
Basic Equipment List: Building Maintenance Unit (BMU)

Sky Rider, working in close association with NTEC Industries of Surrey, BC, installed this Building Maintenance Unit (BMU) on the TD Tower in Vancouver, BC. The new BMU, provided by Sky Rider and manufactured in Spain, replaced an aging Spider rolling davit carriage and self-powered platform.

The BMU features a self contained multi-layer hoisting drum with four wire ropes to position the 30 foot long (9.1M) platform anywhere on the facade. Utilizing 10 foot (3M) jibs in a “goal post” design, the platform can be safely boarded from the rooftop then raised up and over the BMU to the required distance from the facade as illustrated in the photos.

Separate controls are provided for either platform or rooftop operation. The BMU traverses on a runway and is guided by a track mounted to the runway. Mullion guide tracks are utilized for wind sway protection of the platform.
